Cape Town, Safari and Mauritius Honeymoon: 14 Nights and Cost
The strongest sequence is Cape Town, then safari, then Mauritius. Use four nights in Cape Town, three nights in Sabi Sand and seven nights on one Mauritius coast. Route onward through Johannesburg after safari rather than returning to Cape Town, and price every international flight, lodge levy, light-aircraft restriction, resort meal plan and transfer separately.
In this guide
The fourteen-night plan
| Nights | Base | Honeymoon role |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Cape Town | Arrival recovery, mountain, Peninsula, food and design |
| 3 | Sabi Sand | Guided wildlife, lodge time and six possible drives |
| 7 | Mauritius | One-coast resort stay, lagoon, culture and unstructured time |
This sequence moves from active to restorative. Reversing it places early safari wake-ups after a beach week and can make the final city chapter feel operational rather than romantic.
Days 1-4: Cape Town
Day 1: arrive gently
Use a private airport transfer, settle into one neighbourhood and keep the afternoon close to the hotel. A sea-view lunch, promenade or early dinner is more resilient than a timed major attraction after an overnight flight.
Day 2: mountain and city
Take the first suitable weather window for Table Mountain, then add one cultural anchor and a long meal. Do not fix the cableway to a single day simply because tickets can be purchased.
Day 3: the Cape Peninsula
Use a private guide or driver for the Atlantic coast, Cape Point and False Bay. Flexibility around wind, traffic and viewpoint conditions is part of the value.
Day 4: make it personal
Choose food, art, Kirstenbosch, a beach, Robben Island when booked or an unstructured hotel day. A honeymoon should reflect the couple rather than a standard landmark inventory.
The Cape Town destination guide explains neighbourhoods and seasonal tradeoffs in depth.
Days 5-7: Sabi Sand
Fly to the airport or lodge airstrip serving the selected property. Do not choose the lodge first and discover later that its transfer removes the afternoon drive.
A three-night rhythm normally allows:
- arrival and an afternoon drive when the connection lands early enough;
- morning and afternoon drives on Days 6 and 7;
- a final morning drive on departure day when flight timing permits;
- quiet hours for the pool, spa, meals and sleep between activities.
A private vehicle can create flexibility but may be expensive and is not automatically necessary for a couple. Compare lodge size, guiding, room privacy, vehicle occupancy and traversing before upgrading the suite.
The Sabi Sand guide and 2027 cost guide provide the decision and budget frameworks.
Days 8-14: Mauritius
Connect through Johannesburg unless a protected alternative genuinely fits the dates. The first island day should contain only immigration, transfer and settling in.
Days 9-10: resort and lagoon
Use the included beach, pool and water activities without scheduling every hour. Confirm sea conditions locally.
Day 11: one island day
Choose Port Louis and food, Black River Gorges, Le Morne, gardens or another focused cultural and landscape route. Crossing the island repeatedly to collect attractions rarely improves a honeymoon.
Days 12-13: one priority and one empty day
Add a boat activity, hiking, golf, spa or a private meal, then leave one day open for weather and genuine rest.
Day 14: final full day
Keep the last day close to the resort, confirm airport collection and settle any extras before an early departure.
The Mauritius destination guide compares coasts and seasons.
Flight sequence
A common protected sequence is:
- UK, Europe, North America, Kenya or another source market to Cape Town;
- Cape Town to the safari gateway or lodge airstrip, sometimes through Johannesburg;
- safari gateway to Johannesburg;
- Johannesburg to Mauritius;
- Mauritius to the home market, direct or through a suitable hub.
Do not add unrelated round-trip sale fares to estimate a multi-city honeymoon. Ask for one live itinerary showing:
- operating and marketing airlines;
- checked baggage on every sector;
- whether bags transfer automatically;
- small-aircraft weight and bag-shape restrictions;
- connection protection when a sector is delayed;
- terminal changes and overnight requirements;
- ticket change and cancellation terms.
Cost by component
There is no defensible fixed honeymoon price without dates. Build the total this way:
| Component | Required detail | Couple total |
|---|---|---|
| International open-jaw airfare | Cabin, baggage, taxes and rules | Currency |
| Four Cape Town nights | Property, room, breakfast and taxes | Currency |
| Cape Town touring | Guide, vehicle, entries and meals | Currency |
| Three Sabi Sand nights | Per-person rate and inclusions | ZAR |
| Reserve levies | Per person per night | ZAR |
| Safari flights and transfers | Every one-way sector | Currency |
| Seven Mauritius nights | Room, meal plan, taxes and benefits | Currency |
| Mauritius airport transfers | Private or shared, both directions | Currency |
| Insurance | Full trip cancellation and medical value | Currency |
| Discretionary spending | Meals, spa, drinks and gratuities | Currency |
| Complete honeymoon | All components above | Currency |
As a scale example, published Sabi Sabi rates valid through February 2027 place three nights for two around R180,300 at Bush Lodge or R266,700 at Earth Lodge, including the stated nightly conservation levy but excluding flights and festive surcharges.
Choosing the Mauritius coast
| Coast | Best fit | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| North | Restaurants, activity and leaving the resort | Livelier and farther from some southern landscapes |
| West/southwest | Sunsets, Le Morne and active couples | Property and lagoon conditions vary |
| East | Large resorts and an away-from-it-all stay | Greater trade-wind exposure in cooler months |
| South/southeast | Landscape, quiet and nature | Fewer off-property dining choices and longer cross-island drives |
For seven nights, choose one coast. A split stay spends honeymoon time packing and checking in unless the couple has a specific reason to move.
Best time to combine all three
No month is perfect everywhere.
May to September
Cape Town is cooler and may be wet, Sabi Sand is drier with cold early drives, and Mauritius is cooler and generally drier but can feel windier on exposed coasts.
October and November
Cape Town days lengthen, safari heat and early rain build, and Mauritius moves toward warmer summer conditions. This can be an attractive compromise with changing weather.
December to February
Cape Town is in summer and peak demand, Sabi Sand is hot and green, and Mauritius is warm, humid and within cyclone season. The combination remains possible, but rates, rain and disruption risk need honest treatment.
March and April
Cape Town often retains warmth, safari remains green and Mauritius can still be wet, especially in March. Couples prioritising photography and lush landscapes may value the season despite uncertainty.
Entry and health checks
South Africa and Mauritius are separate countries. Confirm for each passport:
- visa or visa-exemption status;
- passport validity and blank-page rules;
- return or onward travel evidence;
- accommodation details and funds where required;
- Mauritius travel-form guidance;
- yellow-fever requirements based on transit and origin;
- malaria advice for the Sabi Sand section;
- mosquito precautions in Mauritius;
- current outbreak and vaccination guidance.
Current South African guidance does not make ETA use compulsory for every visa-exempt traveller. Recheck official guidance before travel rather than copying a blanket statement.
Honeymoon benefits and special requests
Do not promise an upgrade, private dinner or complimentary benefit unless the written rate terms confirm it. Provide marriage-certificate timing when a resort requires proof and distinguish:
- guaranteed inclusions;
- requested amenities;
- benefits subject to availability;
- experiences paid separately;
- weather-dependent activities.
The best honeymoon design is not built on an upgrade that may never clear.
What makes this route work
- Only three bases in fourteen nights.
- The most active chapter comes before the beach.
- Four Cape Town nights retain weather flexibility.
- Three safari nights create a meaningful minimum.
- Seven island nights justify the international extension.
- Johannesburg becomes a useful connection rather than an unnecessary sightseeing stop.
- One operator holds the complete flight, baggage and transfer logic.
All route, fare, entry and health information was checked on 15 October 2026 and should be reconfirmed for the travel dates.
Questions travellers ask
Is fourteen nights enough for Cape Town, safari and Mauritius?
Yes. Four Cape Town nights, three Sabi Sand nights and seven Mauritius nights create three distinct chapters without changing hotels constantly.
What is the best order for this honeymoon?
City, safari, then beach. Cape Town works well after the long international flight, safari creates early starts and high energy, and Mauritius provides the slower final week.
Can you fly directly from safari to Mauritius?
Usually not as one simple direct sector. Most Greater Kruger itineraries connect through Johannesburg. Confirm through-ticket protection, baggage and connection time for the exact route.
How much does the honeymoon cost?
The exact total depends on dates, cabins, safari lodge and Mauritius meal plan. Three Sabi Sand nights alone can exceed R180,000 per couple at published luxury rates before flights and transfers, so every component should be quoted separately.
Is Mauritius all-inclusive?
Only when the selected room rate says so. Breakfast-only, half-board and all-inclusive plans cover different restaurants, drinks and activities and can materially change the final cost.
